We need job creators more than job seekers: UGC Member

Hyderabad: The Technology Business Incubator (TBI), University of Hyderabad (UoH), in association with The Entrepreneur Zone (TEZ – a Startup Accelerator) inaugurated its 5th batch of the 6-month weekend Program in Start-up Management here on Saturday.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Prof. G. Gopal Reddy, who was the Chief Guest for the event, complimented the TBI @ UoH for its pioneering efforts in an otherwise unexplored field of study and teaching.

He highlighted the need for creating “job creators” than “job seekers” so as to provide the right opportunities to the huge “demographic dividend” of India which has around 65% of young people below 30 years.

He also explained the major thrust area being pursued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also the speed with which the changes are taking place in India.

Prof. Reddy suggested that many more universities should follow the efforts of TBI @ UoH and encourage students to “test” their ideas and also advised that failures are stepping stones to success. Later Prof. Reddy gave away the certificates to the participants.

Prof. V. Venkata Ramana, Professor at School of Management Studies and Coordinator of TBI, UoH explained the activities of the TBI @ UoH since its formal registration and establishment in the year 2008.

Since then 10 patents and a lot of workshops were organized to build awareness and interest about the entrepreneurial ecosystem both within the University and other academic institutions and about 25 startups have been commercialized. (INN)
