MANUUTA in Solidarity with JNU Students Struggle

Hyderabad’s Maulana Azad National Urdu University Teachers Association (MANUUTA) has expressed its solidarity towards the struggle of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student community.

After discussing the JNU issue in detail in its official meeting held on February 19, the office bearers reacted on the matter conveying pain and sadness at the state of affairs.

“We are pained and saddened with the obnoxious and biased mind-set engaged to suppress the rights of freedom of speech and expression in the universities, which are cradles of nurturing rational and quizzical mind for the future of the country and society,” said MANUUTA.

“The recent incidents, which took place in the University of Hyderabad and JNU, are alarming to all of us. We demand the withdrawal of the false cases against the JNU students including Kanhaiya Kumar, President-JNUSU and immediate dispensation of justice to them.”

The MANUUTA unequivocally stated that they stand by democratic principles, and doesn’t like interference of the government in functioning of higher institutes.

“We also stand by the democratic principles to be given due importance and the government should avoid interference into the functioning of universities, which should remain autonomous,” it said.
