All villages will get safe drinking water by this year end: KTR

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao on Wednesday announced that all villages across Telangana State would get safe drinking water by the end of December this year under Mission Bhagiratha.

Replying to a query during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly, KTR said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had announced that he would not seek votes in next elections if his government fails to provide safe drinking water to all localities in the State.

He said to fulfil the Chief Minister’s commitment, Mission Bhagiratha works were executed on war footing basis.

KTR informed that so far the supply of water has begun in 3,787 villages in 49 Assembly segments. He said Drinking Water Corporation was also formed for the effective implementation of the scheme.

He said the government has filled the vacancies of 495 Assistant Engineers and efforts were on to fill another 359 vacancies of AEs, SE and other posts.

The minister said the flouride affected areas of Deverkonda in Nalgonda district too would get safe drinking water soon as nearly 82% of works of pipe laying have been completed. (INN)
