Hyderabad: Congress senior leader and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Tuesday demanded judicial enquiry into the death of two farmers in Raghunadhapalem of Khammarn Urban on Monday.
In a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, Ponguleti said that a farmer, Shankar (45) and his son Venkatesh (19), belonging to ST community, lost their lives due to electrocution in their farm in Raghunadhapalem.
They were trying to remove 11 KV wires lying in their fields after they were told by the electricity authorities that there was no current supply in those wires. Both of them died on the spot after touching the wires. It is totally gross negligence of the electricity authorities, he alleged.
“I request you to kindly order for Judicial Enquiry on this issue and direct the authorities concerned for setting right the problems like low lying wires,
broken wires and others which are causing human loss and also pay an amount of Rs. 20 lakh to the family members of the bereaved, Shanker and Venkatesh, as compensation on humanitarian grounds and do the needful,” Ponguleti demanded.
The Congress leader also pointed out that during the last few years ie., from 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18, around 180 farmers and other people have lost their lives due to electric shock.
He said in several places across Telangana state, 11 KV High Tension wires are passing at a very low height in some places, and also broken and fallen in the fields due to gross negligence of the concerned authorities. He said all such wires be removed immediately to prevent further loss of lives. (INN)
