OU to launch course on Medical Biotechnology on Genetic Counselling

Hyderabad: Close on the heels of being granted huge funds under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Osmania University, is one among the three Universities chosen by the Department of Science & Technology, (DST) Ministry of Science & Technology to run a one year PG Diploma programme in Medical Biotechnology on Genetic Counselling to be executed by the Institute of Genetics & Hospital for Genetic diseases, Osmania University.

The programme, under “Skill Development programme,” would place special emphasis on Prenatal and Postnatal Diagnostics.

The Director, Institute of Genetics & Hospital for Genetic Diseases, will be the full time course coordinator. Selection of students will be through a combined common entrance test for skill development in Biotechnology at the national level conducted by all participating Universities/Institutes.

The intake in each academic session will be 10 students per year. Each student will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs.10,000, the OU said in a press release today. (INN)
