Improve employability skills among students, NIT Prof Sarma to GITAM faculty

Improve employability skills among students, NIT Professor N.V.S.N. Sarma advised faculty of Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM).

The professor noted that in a recent survey, just 15% of students from technical background have employability skills in India. On the other hand, the percentage is about 4 to 5 in core subjects, he said.

Fundamentals of the technical students were very poor, he said while speaking as the chief guest in the inaugural session of Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Computer Organization”.

“We have to improve the employability skills of the students up to 40%”, said Sarma, who worked in E&ICT Academy at NIT, Warangal.

The event, held on May 30, was organized by GITAM University in association with NIT, Warangal. It was conducted under the scheme of Electronics & ICT Academy. The event was scheduled to continue up to 8 June 2016.

Prof. Sarma advised faculty members to improve their teaching abilities using ICT tools. He said students will also improve their soft skills, if teachers do the same. In addition, he appealed teachers to interact with students and actively take part in FDP.

GITAM University’s Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. N. Siva Prasad stressed on the need of continuing education program. He said a person who can learn fundamentals can solve any problem in his / her life.

The FDP program coordinator P.Pavan Kumar said that about 45 faculty members from Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Hyderabad registered for the 10 days, 80 hours event.

Notable among participants in the inaugural program were: Prof. C. Chandra Sekhar, Prof. Prasad Patnaik B.S.V from IIT Madras, and Prof. Ch. Sanjay, Principal, GITAM School of Technology.
