Maulana Azad – an apostle of Unity & Courage : Prof. Siddiqui

Hyderabad: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was not only a frontline leader of Indian freedom struggle but he was also an eminent scholar and theologist.

An ardent opponent of two nation theory, he was the one who provided solace and courage to the Indian Muslims to stay in the country, In the post independent turbulent era.

Eminent Scholar Prof. Zafar Ahmad Siddiqui, Aligarh Muslim University expressed these views today while delivering Azad Memorial lecture on “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad : Ek Naabagha-e-Rozgar Shakhsiyat” (Maulana Azad : A Legendary Personality) at Maulana Azad National Urdu University. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor presided over.

University organized the lecture as part of Azad Day Celebrations 2018 and in connection with National Education Day. Maulana Azad was the first Education Minister of IndependentIndia.

According to Prof. Siddiqui, Maulana Azad’s impeccable personality and character was beyond comparison. He always stood against the tyrant. He was a versatile writer, journalist and a leading light of freedom movement.

Maulana Azad with his unique and impressive style of writing, took Urdu journalism to greater heights of classic. That is the reason he has been accepted as not only a fine editor but also a leading literary figure.

Prof. Sididqui also pointed out similarities between Aligarh Muslim University and MANUU and called the later as the coloned version. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz in his presidential address, stressed the need to remember and replicate the thoughts of these great personalities.

We always claim India to be our Mother land but we also need to embrace the brethren of the Country, he said. He also spoke about his vision of establishing an inter religious study centre in the University which will also deal with conflict resolution and peace studies.

The programme held at DDE Auditorium began with the screening of a documentary on Maulana Azad produced by Instructional Media Centre, MANUU. Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Pro Vice Chancellor, felicitated the guest.

Dr. Anis Azmi, Chairman, Azad Day Celebrations Committee conducted the proceedings and introduced the guest. Mr. Abid Abdul Wasay, P.R.O. proposed the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, University will organize Azad Walk at 4.00 pm and Theatrical Programme “Umang” at 6.00 pm tomorrow as part of Azad Day Celebrations.
