Speaker vows to make Telangana Assembly a role model

Hyderabad: Newly elected Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has vowed to transform Telangana Legislative Assembly as a role model for the entire country.

Addressing a press conference after the conclusion of first session of Assembly on Sunday, Srinivas Reddy thanked all legislators, officials and media for the successful conduct of first session.

He said people of all 119 constituencies have elected and sent their representatives to the Assembly with high hopes. Therefore, he said all MLAs should understand their responsibilities and perform duties.

Srinivas Reddy said he was first elected as the president of a village cooperative society in 1977. Since then, he said he was successful in his political career. He thanked members of all the political parties who ensured his unanimous election.

He said political positions are not hierarchal and are given by the people. Therefore, he said everyone must work to fulfil the wishes of the people. He said every MLA should maintain the decorum and dignity of the House and keep aside their personal egos.

In the last term, Srinivas Reddy said he had served as the Agriculture Minister and worked hard for the welfare of farmers. He said schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and 24-hour power supply to farmers are now being emulated across the country.

He said Telangana has now emerged as No. 1 State in the country on various counts. Similarly, he said Telangana Assembly should emerge as a role model.

The Speaker said that the each and every MLA would be given an opportunity to speak in the House. He said he would strictly follow the rules and ensure that all MLAs follow the agenda decided in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).

He also announced that training would be imparted to journalists covering the Assembly proceedings. He said the website of Telangana Assembly would be modernised. (INN)
