Hyderabad: Elaborate arrangements have been made for the conduct of polling for nine municipal corporations and 120 municipalities across Telangana State on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, State Election Commission V. Nagi Reddy informed that over 45,000 polling staff has been deployed for the polling from 7 am to 5 pm on Wednesday. He appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise without fail.
He said elaborate security arrangements have been made for the peaceful conduct of elections. He said steps were taken by the Election Commission to minimise the impact of use of liquor and cash to influence the voters. He informed that Rs. 44.41 lakh cash and liquor worth nearly Rs. 16 lakh have been seized at various places.
Polling for Karimnagar Municipal Corporation will be held on January 24 and results will be declared on January 27.
There are 382 wards in 10 municipal corporations and 2,647 wards in 120 municipalities which are going to polls. Of them, 80 councillors and 3 corporators have been elected unanimously. A total of 11,179 candidates are in fray in 120 municipalities while there are 1,747 candidates contesting in 10 municipal corporations.
There are 40,36,346 voters in municipalities and 13,13,909 voters in municipal corporations. A total of 7,961 polling stations, including 6,188 in municipalities and 1,773 in municipal corporations, have been set up. (INN)
