TS Govt is fully prepared to deal with Coronavirus situation: CM KCR

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said that the State Government was fully prepared to deal with any kind of situation that arises due to Coronavirus in Telangana State.

Addressing a press conference after holding a high-level review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on Friday, the Chief Minister said that in the worst case scenario, the State Government was capable of handling 50-60,000 patients.

However, he said that such a situation would not arise if people stay in-doors and cooperate with the authorities during the lock down period till April 15.

The Chief Minister informed that 10 Coronavirus positive cases have been reported in Telangana on Friday which took the total number of affected people to 59. He said one person has been cured and discharged and remaining 58 patients were undergoing treatment at designated hospital.

He said all of them were stable. He said nearly 20,000 people, who had a travel history, have been Home Quarantined and a strick surveillance have been kept on us by giving them required treatment and suggestions.

With complete ban on air, rail, bus and other modes of transport, he said the risk of Coronavirus entering Telangana was over. Now the government is providing treatment to the identified suspects in quarantine to beat the Coronavirus.

KCR said that there was no treatment for the Coronavirus and social distancing was the only measure that could prevent its spread. He said a highly developed nation like United States of America could not control the devastating effects of Coronavirus, then one can imagine the condition in India.

He said nearly 25 crore Indians would be affected if required measures were not taken for its prevention. He said India was not equipped to handle a situation like US or Italy.

The Chief Minister said steps have been taken to keep nearly 11,000 people in isolation. Further, nearly 1400 ICU units were on stand-by. Overall, nearly 12,400 beds were ready to deal with the Coronavirus infection if the conditions deteriorate in future.

He said orders have been placed for purchase of 500 ventilators. He said it has been decided to use Gandhi Hospital exclusively for the treatment of Coronavirus patients. Further, King Koti Hospital and other hospitals too were being readied for the purpose.

He said Health Department and entire State machinery was fully geared up to deal with the situation. In addition to existing staff, in all hospitals across the State, he said it has been decided to engage the services of nearly 11,000 doctors and para-medical staff.

KCR appealed to the people not to panic or worry as the authorities were taking all required measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

He informed that Prime Minister Narender Modi had telephoned him to enquire about the status in Telangana and he was really appreciative of the measures taken by the State Government.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government would arrange food and shelter for everyone in the State, especially labourers, beggars or homeless. (INN)
