Governor Dr. Soundararajan chairs meeting on Armed Forces Flag Day Fund

Hyderabad: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday chaired the 3rd meeting of the State Managing Committee of Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, Telangana State. The meeting was held at Raj Bhavan, here.

The members who were present in the meeting included Somesh Kumar, Chief Secretary to Government, Ravi Gupta, Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department, D. Ronald Rose, Secretary to Government, Finance department, Maj Gen RK Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Headquarters, Telangana and Andhra Sub Area (TASA), Maj Gen N. Srinivas Rao, Wg Cdr T.J. Reddy, Brig P. Ganesham, Cdr CSM Raj, and L. Sharman, Collector, Hyderabad. Sri Surendra Mohan, Secretary to Governor was also present.

Col P. Ramesh Kumar, Director, Sainik Welfare and Secretary, Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, Telangana State gave a detailed briefing on the state of the Fund, various schemes, salient activities of the Sainik Welfare department, and details of beneficiaries of various schemes provided out of the fund.

The Committee has approved the following: Immediate financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of ex-servicemen, who died, and who are having dependent unemployed, and unmarried children; Enhancement of marriage grant for girl children of ex-servicemen from Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 40,000/; Educational assistance for children of ex-servicemen for pursuing CA, CS, ICWA, and Ph.D. courses also; Enhancement of the educational assistance for the children of ex-servicemen who are pursuing professional courses, from Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 25,000/ and the sanction of Rs. 20,00,000/- each for the construction of Sainik Bhavans at Adilabad, and Kothagudem.

Speaking on the occasion Governor, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has emphasized the need to look after the ex-servicemen and their families who gave the best of their youth for the Nation.

The Governor has stressed the need for identifying and reaching out to all the ex-servicemen and the widows of ex-servicemen who are in distress, understand their problems and resolve them at the earliest time frame.

She desired that Telangana State should become the role model for the rest of the country through innovative schemes and implement the same in a meticulous fashion for the welfare of the ex-servicemen.

The Governor stated that women family members of ex-servicemen will be imparted self-employment training programs under Atma Nirbhar Bharat by Raj Bhavan, Telangana. She has requested the Director, Sainik Welfare department to identify the interested beneficiaries.

The Governor conveyed her sincere gratitude to all the donors for their generous voluntary contribution with special reference to all the employees of the Government of Telangana, and the State Bank of India.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has appealed to all the citizens and corporate organizations to come forward and contribute generously for the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has stated that a Committee shall be constituted to study the methods to increase the donations to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

He suggested that the services being rendered by the Sainik Welfare department may be made available in MeeSeva centres so that the ex-servicemen need not go to district headquarters for availing such services and schemes.

He has emphasized the need to capture the data of ex-servicemen for utilizing their services during natural calamities, disaster management, etc., (INN)
