Minority Students Not Able to Apply for National Scholarship

Students from minority communities reported problem in applying for scholarship on India’s national scholarship portal. The portal is not allowing registration since last one month, they complained.

According to social activist S.Q. Masood, who helps students in Hyderabad in applying for scholarship, he noticed the issue and reported it to concerned government officials couple of days ago.

He said the option Block/Taluka is not working on the portal, due to which students were not able to choose the option leading to incomplete registration.

“Due to this problem, thousands of poor students belonging to Minority Community will be deprived of their right, and benefits offered through the scholarship scheme,” added Masood.

Today, E&IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Twitter that the portal allows students to apply for various scholarships online, and one crore students have registered.

The claim of the minister raised eyebrows of many, including Masood. “If what the minster saying is true, then may be only minorities are not able to register. In which case, it amounts to discrimination,” he reasoned.

By the time this report was finalized, the minister was yet to respond to the issue and Masood yet to receive any official response from the concerned government authorities to whom he had written earlier.
