KTR to inaugurate 2-day Telangana Kala Mela at Peoples Plaza

Hyderabad: art@telangana and Krishnakriti Foundation will be organising a two-day Telangana Kala Mela for the first time on November 5th & 6th at Peoples’ Plaza, Necklace Road. The mela will be open to public from 11 AM – 7 PM and entry is free.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Papa Rao, Trustee, art@telangana shared the vision of Hyderabad as a contemporary worldwide capital:

inclusive, edgy and projected into the future through the best worldwide urban art and the importance of regeneration of the neglected areas of the historic city.

Prshant Lahoti, Trustee Krishnakriti Foundation said that aim of the Mela is to bring the art to the public and provide a conducive platform to the artists from the Telangana region.

The vision of this initiative is to create awareness and develop appreciation towards art among the masses by organising this festival every year, he added.

Kala Mela aims to democratise art by providing equal opportunity to artists to participate and benefit from the exposure.

The Kala Mela will be conducted in parallel to the 1st International Street Art Festival at Hyderabad which is being held from 1 – 12th November by the St+Art Foundation in association with art@telangana and Krishnakriti Foundation.

Papa Rao informed that the Kala Mela will be inaugurated by IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao and will be attended by Azmeera Chandulal (Minister for Culture & Tourism), Dr. K V Ramanachary (Advisor to Govt. of Telangana), Bonthu Rammohan (Mayor, GHMC), Dr. B Janardhan Reddy (Commissioner, GHMC), Padmashri Jagdish Mittal (art connoisseur) and eminent artists Padmashri K Laxma Goud, Suryaprakash and Thota Vaikuntham.

The Art Mela will have about more than 100 stalls with various artists displaying their work and working on site for 2 days.

Traditional art styles of Telangana such as Nakashi, Cheriyal, Nirmal will be demonstrated by artists specialising in these techniques.

The festival would conclude with the installation of a sculpture, which will be a landmark in the years to come.

The event has been welcome by Telangana Tourism; GHMC and HMDA. Whereas corporates like TREDA; Andhra Bank; TCS and Cyient have also extended their support towards Kala Mela and shown special interest in the upliftment of art and artists in and around the state, Lahoti further added. (INN)
