Convocation is ‘show of elitism and VIP culture’: MANUU Student Union

Student Union of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) expressed its displeasure over not being officially invited for the Sixth Convocation, which is scheduled to commence on December 26.

The students body said that the administration has “largely ignored on campus students” for the event, which will be graced by President of India.

MANUUSU President Tajamul Islam said that they had not received any official invitation for the convocation.

“We see it as an attempt to discourage the Student Union and make it irrelevant on campus,” he remarked.

“Convocation is a students’ event if students are not allowed then what is it for except a pomp and show of elitism and VIP culture,” MANUUSU noted in a press statement.

Earlier, the MANUU administration clarified that more students could not be accommodated due to space constraints and strict security arrangements.

The student body also criticized the university for spending “a huge amount” to get the campus ready for hosting the convocation, and called it “completely unnecessary”.

While dissociating itself from “lavish and pompous event”, MANUUSU expressed its solidarity with on campus students and condemned “misuse and wastage of precious resources”.
