A View of 19th Urdu Book Fair in Hyderabad

Visitors to Urdu Book Fair explored the world of Urdu language, literature, and culture with comfort. Books, Sham e Ghazal, Mushaira, Qawwali, Quiz and others eventsĀ  soothed visitors’ senses.

The 19th All India Urdu Book Fair was organized at Quli Qutub Shah Stadium in Hyderabad, a place known for great Urdu poets, including Marxist revolutionary Makhdoom Mohiuddin and Hyderabad founder Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah.

On display from December 12 were books on education, science, medicine, Unani medicine, religious, general knowledge, and others. The Urdu Book Fair ran till December 20. Publishers from Assam, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra to Karnataka and other states displayed Urdu books on their respective stalls.

The book fair was organized by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), New Delhi in collaboration with Telangana Urdu Academy. NCPUL, which supervised the exhibition cum sale, claimed it was a successful eight day endeavor in the city of nizams.

According to NCPUL representative and consultant Shoaib Raza Fatimi, there were close to 126 stalls of nearly 80 different publishers from across the nation. Promotion of the Urdu language was the main objective of the book fair, said Fatimi.

He also noted that the Urdu language is spoken all across the country including in states of Assam, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, UP, and Maharashtra. It is a lingua franca of India, he added.

Among famous personalities who visited Urdu Book Fair in Hyderabad were: Mr. Mujtaba Hussain, Prof. Baig Ehsaas, Khan Athar Nazim, Ruknuddeen, Jabeer Kaur, Sultan Mirza, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Mohsin Jalganvi, Dr Javeed Kamal, Dr Mohammad Nazim Ali, etc.
