HCU Faculty Rattan Lal Hangloo Appointed VC of Allahabad University

Senior faculty of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) Rattan Lal Hangloo has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Allahabad University. Mr. Hangloo is currently the VC of Kalyani University, West Bengal. He is serving as VC of Kalyani University since 2013.

Allahabad University has a reputation of beingĀ  one of the oldest universities in the country. It was established in 1887. Mr. Hangloo is an eminent historian and specialist on Indian and Central Asia history, politics and culture, and Kashmir affairs. He hails from Hanglalgund villageĀ  in Anantnag district of Kashmir, India.

Recently, Mr. Hangloo was awarded Dewang Mehta Business School Award in recognition of his leadership, innovation and industry interface, among others. He is also a member of the election analysis team of Harvard University.

Prof. Hangloo did his doctorate (PhD) from India’s prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. He served as the Chair of Indian Studies at University of West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago.

In addition, he was visiting professor at University of Delaware (USA), University of Michigan (USA), Heidelberg University in Germany, Bamberg University in Germany, and Ashkabad University in Turkmenistan.

He has several fellowships to his credit, including Fulbright Fellowship by USA, DAAD, Fellowship by Germany and Maison des Sciences visiting fellowship by France.

The University of Hyderabad is popularly called as Hyderabad Central University (HCU) by locals.
