GHMC will promote Public Transportation System: Mayor

Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was giving more prominence to Public Transportation System in almost all the areas of twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

He was addressing the Indo French Workshop on Charminar Pedestrianisation Project and Generation Tram way held at ASCI, Banjara Hills on Monday.

The Mayor said that a tram way transport system would be introduced at all the historic and heritage places, including Charminar. He said that the transport system in the city would be on the lines of City of Bordeaux City in France.

Rammohan said that works pertaining to CPP, HMR were being taken up in priority after the completion of these projects the new transportation will be taken up in coordination with the experts from France City.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the CPP Project would be completed in three months. He said that the project works, which were delayed were taken up on war footing basis from the last six months. He said around 15,000 people visit Charminar areas and the number reaches 25,000 on Sundays and holidays.

Keeping in view the importance of tourists, the State Government was taking a lot of initiatives to improve the tourists spot with modern facilities in the near future.

The Commissioner said to improve the existing system, the GHMC is planning to introduce tram way from Mojamjahi market to Charminar on 2.9 kilometers stretch. He said another tram way would be planned up from Quli Qutub Shahi tombs to Golkonda.

The tramways can be provided in leaner time with lesser place with all basic amenities can be provided in stipulated time, he said.

MIM MLC Syed Aminul Jaffri, Bertrand De Hartingh, Councilor for Cooperation and Cultural Action & Director of the Institute Francais of Delhi, ASCI Director Srinivas Chary, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and other senior officials from HMWS&SB, Tourism, Archeology have participated in the workshop.
