Centre emulates GHMC in segregation of waste

Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration Department of Government of India has decided to implement the dry and wet segregation of garbage waste from households in all the urban local bodies in the country as a part of World Environment Day which is scheduled to be held on 5th June.

The Swachh Bharath Mission has issued the instructions to all the Urban Local Bodies to strictly implement the segregation norms.

According to GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was the first to introduce the innovative programme of segregation through 2,000 Swachh autos and duly distributing 44 lakhs of dust bins to the households for segregation purpose.

To create awareness about the segregation, the GHMC had utilized the services of various organizations, NGOS, SHGs, for the said purpose. The GHMC also conducted such awareness campaigns on segregation and derived very good results, he said.

The GHMC has removed around 1,116 open garbage points duly arranging rangolis to curb garbage menace on the open points. Basing on the initiative taken up by the GHMC the Swachh Bharath Mission has taken a decision to take up the same in all Urban Local Bodies in the country, the Commissioner said. (INN)
