KCR not sincere towards 12% Muslim quota: Uttam

Suryapet: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was not sincere towards 12% Muslim reservation.

Speaking to media persons after participating in Iftar party at Osmania Masjid in his constituency Huzur Nagar of Suryapet district on Monday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that KCR has been cheating the Muslim community on 12% quota ever since he came to power.

He reminded that the during election campaign, KCR, while addressing a meeting at Shadnagar on April 19, 2014, had promised to promised to give 12% Muslim reservation within four months after coming to power. Even after 40 months, 12% reservation has remained a mirage for the Muslim community, he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party has backed the Bill in Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council to provide 12% Muslim quota. However, he said that the TRS Government did nothing to implement the increased quota even after passing the Bill.

He pointed out that the previous Congress Government implemented 5% Muslim reservation in just 58 days after coming to power in 2004. He said 5% quota was implemented in all educational institutions in the academic year 2004-2005.

However, he expressed regret that despite passing the Bill in both the Houses, nothing has been done by the TRS Government to implement 12% Muslim quota from academic year 2017-18. “KCR is now saying that he will fight with the Centre for 12% Muslim reservation. This is nothing but open cheating.

With his non-sincere approach, KCR has turned the entire exercise of passing the Bill to mere eye wash,” he said.

The TPCC Chief said that the Congress party has been in favour of socio-economic and educational development of Muslim community across the country.

Listing out various steps taken by the previous Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and Congress Government in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, he described the period 2004-2014 as the Golden Decades for Muslims in the country.

He said that the Muslim community was still enjoying 4% Muslim quota in jobs, education and other institutions which was implemented by previous Congress Government.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party has a strong political will and commitment to provide equal development opportunities to all communities, including Muslims. He said Muslims should get their due share in all the developmental programmes.

However, he alleged that KCR has been cheating the Muslims by making 12% reservation a ceremonial promise which he repeats in all Iftar parties. (INN)
