BJP politicising Triple Talaq issue: Congress

Hyderabad: Deputy CLP leader T. Jeevan Reddy has accused the BJP of politicising the issue of Triple Talaq.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Jeevan Reddy said that there was equality in Islam and women face no discrimination in any matter. However, he said the BJP is misusing a small group of Muslim women to defame Islam and Muslims.

He said government should not interfere in Personal Law of any religion on matters pertaining to marriage and divorce. He said that the Supreme Court, in its verdict on Triple Talaq, has clearly mentioned that there should no intervention in religious laws.

Jeevan Reddy said instead of playing politics, BJP Government should invited prominent Islamic clerics to find an amicable solution to the issue. He said India is a secular country and people of all religions have a right to practice and propagate their religion.

However, he said BJP has been trying to interfere in religious matters and impose Uniform Civil Code. He said forcible implementation of Uniform Civil Code was not in the interest of the country.

Kaleshwaram: Affected farmers ignored in public hearing

Jeevan Reddy alleged that TRS MPs, MLAs and other leaders dominated in the public hearing held on Kaleshwaram project in Karimnagar on Tuesday.

He said the affected farmers were completely neglected and were not allowed to speak on the issue. Demanding that the State Government pay compensation of Rs. 10 lakh per acre to the affected farmers, he alleged that the authorities were resorting to forcible acquisition of land from the farmers.
