33 Medical colleges will be set up in 33 districts: Harish Rao

Hyderabad: Health and Family Welfare Minister T Harish Rao said that 33 Medical Colleges would be established in 33 districts.

Stating that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has put a special focus on the health and medical sector, he said that already some colleges were inaugurated. He participated in the Siddipet Medical College’s first batch of PG students’ introduction program on Monday.

Harish Rao said that Siddipet Medical College was the youngest and it was a great achievement that it got PG seats at the beginning itself. He said that the college has 57 PG seats. He appreciated the efforts of the principal and professors of the college.

He informed that there were 2,950 undergraduate medical seats, after seven years of Telangana the number of seats increased to 6,715 which was a 127% growth. He further said that there were 1,180 PG seats before Telangana which was increased to 2,501 today. He said that there were only 5 medical colleges before state formation and the TRS government started 12 medical colleges in only one year.The Health Minister informed that about 9 medical colleges would be inaugurated in the coming year. He said that multi-speciality seats would be increased in the coming years. He admitted that there was a dearth of specimens for practice in medical colleges. He asked the newest PG batch of the Siddipet Medical College to study hard and get the distinction. (INN)
