Uniform Civil Code Not Acceptable, says Indian Muslim leaders

Hyderabad: In a rare display of unity, Muslim leaders representing various sects, schools of thoughts, organisations and political parties, joined hands to express their opposition to Uniform Civil Code.

“Uniform Civil Code is not acceptable under any circumstances. We will not tolerate any kind of intrusion in the Muslim Personal Law and we will do everything to fight against interference in Shariat,” said Tahreek Muslim Shabban president Mohammed Mushtaq Mallik while addressing the first meeting of Reception Committee for All India Tahafuz-e-Shariyat Conference.

The meeting held at Simla Garden in Malakpet on Saturday witnessed the participation of nearly 200 Muslim leaders, including those from different districts of Telangana State.

They included Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Jamaat-e-Islami president Hamed Mohammed Khan, Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Hind president Hafez Peer Shabbir Ahmed, Moulana Hamed Shattir of Sunni Ulema Board, Moulana Syed Mazher Hussaini of Jamiyatul Mashaiq, Sufi Shah Mohammed Muzaffar Ali of All India Markazi Majlis-e-Chistia, Hussaini Foundation president Syed Jaffer Hussain, Moulana Syed Fazalullah Shah Quadri, Moulana Abdul Samad Nawab, Mufti Hasanuddin of Jamiat-ul-Mominaat, Moulana Ghulam Nabi Shah, Moulana Tariq Quadri, Mufti Mahboob Shareef and Moulana Fasiuddin of Jamia Nizamia, Shia scholar Moulana Agha Munawar Ali, Congress leaders Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Syed Nizamuddin, ex-corporators Mohammed Ghouse and Meraj Mohammed, TRS senior leader Rahmeemullah Khan Niyazi, senior advocates Osman Shaheed and Allauddin Ansari among others.

This was apparently one of the biggest gatherings of Muslim leaders with each representation a different sect, school of thought, organisation or party.

In one voice, all the leaders condemned the BJP-led NDA Government for asking the Law Commission to examine the possibilities of introducing Uniform Civil Code. They decided to launch a joint campaign across Telangana State to create awareness among Muslims against the UCC.

“This meeting of Ulemas, Mashaiqeen, Intellectuals and representatives of religious, social and political organisations, would like to make it clear to the Government of India that our country is of diverse religions, cultures and societies.

We feel and strongly believe that the Uniform Civil Code is not only against the Muslims, but the entire population of India,” says the resolution unanimously passed in the meeting.

Describing the move to bring in UCC as part of a larger conspiracy to sabotage the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society of India, the Muslim leaders said that the Uniform Civil Code, in any shape or form, would be detrimental to the interest of all Indians, especially Muslims.

“This gathering, representing all sects and schools of thoughts of Muslims, would like to warn the BJP Government against the Uniform Civil Code.

Indian Muslims will never tolerate any kind of interference in Shariyat and will strongly fight against such moves of communal forces,” read the resolution move by Moulana Syed Asrar Hussain Razvi.

Mushtaq Mallik informed that the Muslim leaders have decided to conduct All India Tahafuz-e-Shariyat Conference in the month of October wherein Muslim leaders from across the country would be invited. Further, district-level Tahafuz-e-Shariyat committees would be constituted across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. (INN)
