GHMC to do away with manual scavenging

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Tarakarama Rao said that the GHMC would do away with the practice of manual cleaning of manholes and the job will be done by using machines.

Expressing concern over the deaths of some workers in a manhole in the city recently, he said that Rs 10 lakh compensation would be provided to each of the deceased workers’ family members. Speaking at programme at Necklace road on Tuesday, KTR said,

“In addition to the previous 1,824 autos distributed, we have today launched 176 new high-end Technology Swatch Autos to clear the garbage on the Necklace Road. The Minister then distributed 176 swachh autos to the beneficiaries.

The minister said that a complete cleansing drive would be taken up to make Hyderabad a clean city and replace the old vehicles with new ones in a phased manner.

He also felicitated best workers of the GHMC on the occasion. He also said that the municipal vehicles older than 15 years would be replaced with new ones.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Minister Srinivas Yadav and others were present. (INN)
