TS Govt will construct 56 lakes on city’s outskirts

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K. Tarakarama Rao on Thursday visited Pedda Cheruvu, located in Nallagandla Village of Serilingampally Mandal in Ranga Reddy district.

Popularly called as Nallagandla Cheruvu, the lake area under FTL is about 90 Acres. There are four lakes in Hyderabad Central University (HCU) premises which is towards the east side of the lake.

These four lakes are in series of tanks to Nallagandla Lake. KTR instructed the officials to develop the lakes in collaboration with Aparna Construction who have come forward to develop lakes with CSR funds.

Speaking to media persons, KTR said that the State Government plans to construct 56 reservoirs to meet the water needs of areas located on Hyderabad’s outskirts.

He said so far the construction of 12 reservoirs has been completed and remaining reservoirs too would be completed by August this year.

KTR said Greater Hyderabad was formed by merging surrounding municipalities and gram panchayats. However, no arrangements were made to supply drinking water in the merged areas.

Therefore, he said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has sanctioned Rs. 1900 crore to supply drinking water on the peripheries of Hyderabad.

He said nearly 1800 KM pipeline has been laid under Mission Bhagiratha. He said nearly 1200 KM of pipeline was laid in record 110 days. Similarly, he said that the Nallagandla lake was completed in record 11 months.

The minister informed that drinking water was being supplied to as many as 160 localities. Similarly, he said tapped water supply would be provided to all households in all lanes and by-lanes of Hyderabad.

He said that the government has also decided to construction two new reservoirs to meet the water demands in future.

KTR said tenders for construction of a reservoir at Keshavapuram of Shamirpet at a cost of Rs. 7700 crore would be called soon. (INN)
