BRAOU launches massive open online course for ‘Swayam’

Hyderabad: The Centre for Staff Training and Development of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), is launching Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Online Course Development for SWAYAM in collaboration with Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA).

Teachers of KG to PG and at University level who want to learn more about online course development will find this MOOC informative and engaging. Using up-to- date learning design and simple, accessible technology, the course runs on an easy-to-use learning platform available via the Internet. The course will run over two weeks and requires approximately three to five hours of time each week. Designed to accommodate learners’ busy schedules, the course offers flexibility with options for learning the content. You will learn from readings, videos, discussions with other participants and instructors, meaningful exercises, and quizzes.

Prof.R.Limbadri, Chairman, TSCHE, Government of Telangana was the Chief guest for the program. He said that he was happy to Launch a new Online training  course. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused havoc in the education system. To reach the learners, Indian universities and colleges are encouraged to make use of SWAYAM Online platform. SWAYAM, which stands for Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds, is an Indian Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform.

Navin Mittal, Principal Secretary, Commissioner, Collegiate Education & Technical Education, Government of Telangana, was the guest of honour. He stressed that the Faculty members of universities and colleges require training so that they can design and develop quality online programmes based on the SWAYAM Guidelines.

Hence, it is necessary to develop an online course on SWAYAM which will motivate and guide faculty members through the step-by-step procedure for development of courses for SWAYAM. This MOOC will build the capacities of the faculty members to develop Online Programmes.

Prof K. Seetharama Rao, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU President of the program and he said The top 100 universities under the NIRF ranking are being encouraged to start online courses as part of the self-reliant India campaign. The Government is also liberalising distance and online education regulatory framework. SWAYAM is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under Digital India to give a coordinated stage and free entry to web courses, covering all the levels of education institutions. UGC, New Delhi, is encouraging faculty members to submit their expression of interest for developing UG and PG courses.Prof. Madhu Parhar, Director, Commonwealth Educational Media centre for Asia, and  Dr. Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, Sr. Programme Officer (Education), CEMCA, New Delhi are the guest of honours for the program. Prof.Ghanta Chakrapani, Director (CSTD) welcomed and introduced the program. Prof.E.Sudharani, Director (Academic) spoke on the occasion. All the Directors, Heads of the Branches, Deans, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff members, research Scholars and officials of CEMCA participated through Zoom from New Delhi. (INN)
