Agriculture is the foundation of all cultures: Governor

Hyderabad: Governor of Telangana, Jharkhand, and Lt. Governor of Puducherry C P Radhakrishnan said that agriculture was the foundation of all cultures and emphasised India’s need to prioritise agriculture to avoid dependence on food grain imports.

The Governor presided over the 6th Convocation of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, on Monday.

Delivering the Chancellor’s address, the Governor urged the young graduates to focus on minimizing water usage, increasing productivity and per-acre yield, and improving the quality of seed material. He encouraged them to equip themselves to tackle agricultural challenges and to rise to face global competition. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of leveraging information technology innovations to better serve the farming community.

Governor Radhakrishnan also noted that farmers’ suicides have significantly decreased over the past decade due to various initiatives by the union government under Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi. He called on students and agricultural researchers to focus on improving yield, reducing the cost of cultivation, and providing effective technologies in farmers’ fields.

752 students, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD graduates across all faculties, received their degrees during the convocation. Eleven PG and PhD students and eight UG students were awarded gold medals in various categories. Miss B. Divya from the Faculty of Agriculture and Miss Velcahala Sai Prathyusha from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering each received six gold medals for their outstanding academic performance.The convocation was attended by PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor M Raghunandan Rao, Chief Guest Challa Srinivas Shetty, Managing Director of State Bank of India, Academic Council Members, Registrar and University officers of PJTSAU, former vice-chancellors, Board of Management members, former Deans, faculty, and students. (INN)
