Olympic medalists Sindhu gets a rousing welcome

Hyderabad: Rio Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand were given grand reception by the Telangana government on her return to Hyderabad on Monday.

The officials brought them in a double-decked vehicle to Gachchibowli stadium. Scores of schoolchildren and Sindhu’s fans lined up and gave a warm welcome as they gathered on either sides of the road en route the stadium.

They were felicitated at Gachchi Bowli Stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, Nayani showered praises on Sindhu for bringing laurels to the nation in general and Telangana State in particular. Speaking on the occasion coach Pullela Gopichand promised that Sindhu’s best was yet to come.

Thanking her millions of fans, Ms Sindhu said that she would try for gold at Tokyo Olympics in 2020. She thanked her coach and her parents and her fans for their support.

Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, IT Minister KT Rao, Transport Minister Mahender Reddy, GHMC Mayor B Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy and others welcomed her at the Shamshabad airport in the morning.

The Telangana government had announced Rs 5 crore cash incentive, house site to Ms Sindhu and Rs 1 crore to her coach Gopichand. (INN)
